I'm with you on that. I made this so you only have to set up your drivers once on a single machine, then you can print from anything that can send an email (including your phone).
I set up CUPS on my laptop a while back and haven't had any issues printing since. I remember it was a bit difficult since it wanted a root password (through the UI) to do stuff, but I don't directly use the root user.
I'm actually more impressed my old HP printer hasn't died yet than I am with CUPS for not forgetting how to print.
